The US president said the deal, which would require the US to hand over $300bn to redevelop the country, bore no relationship to the truth, as the White House prepared to send officials to Geneva to sign the deal.
“The terms that Iran leaked out...have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing,” Mr Trump wrote on Social Media, accusing Tehran of acting in bad faith.
“What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth. Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith.”
The terms of the deal published overnight require the US and its allies to pay Iran reparations for damage caused by the war and “to present reconstruction plans for Iran amounting to at least $300bn”.
However, Tehran will not give up control over the strategic waterway and will continue its nuclear enrichment, according to the draft agreement published by Iranian state media.
News of the terms has caused unease amongst Mr Trump’s closest allies. One source described the agreement as a “surrender deal”.
The text emerged amid expectations that JD Vance, the US vice-president, will fly to Geneva to sign a deal, potentially on Sunday, before next week’s G7 meeting in the French Alps.
