Iran continued to fire drones and missiles at its Gulf neighbours overnight, despite Donald Trump’s estimation that the war was “very complete, pretty much”.
Air attack sirens sounded in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, and in Bahrain, while Saudi Arabia said it destroyed two drones. Kuwait’s National Guard said it shot down six.
The Saudi national oil company, ARAMCO, issued a stark warning about the global effect of the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The world’s top oil exporter warned of “catastrophic consequences” for the world’s oil markets if the war continued to disrupt shipping through the waterway.
Amin Nasser, chief executive, told reporters on an earnings call: “There would be catastrophic consequences for the world’s oil markets and the longer the disruption goes on... the more drastic the consequences for the global economy.”
He continued: “While we have faced disruptions in the past, this one by far is the biggest crisis the region’s oil and gas industry has faced.”
