12.12.2019 | US President condemns 'delinquent' France and Canada after NATO gaffe

The US president hit out at the two leaders, who were filmed mocking Mr Trump at the NATO summit near London earlier this month.

He condemned the pair after a Twitter user highlighted their countries’ job losses.

The Twitter user wrote: “So, let me get this straight. Canada lost 71,000 jobs last month (equivalent to US losing 500,000) and Paris is shutdown from massive strike over awful economy and governance.

“But Trudeau & Macron found time to snicker at Trump? Really?

Mr Trump replied: “They were just upset that I demanded they pay their fair share for NATO.

“Their countries are delinquent. I raised $530 Billion more from NATO countries!”

Video footage emerged on the eve of the NATO summit on December 3 of Mr Macron and Mr Trudeau mocking the US President.

Mr Trump quickly lashed out at Mr Trudeau - whom he has been engaged in a long-running furious war of words - accusing him of being “two-faced” during a press conference after a meeting of NaTO leaders the following day.

The US President told reporters: “Well, he’s two-faced. No, honestly Trudeau is a nice guy. I find him a very nice guy.

“But you know the truth is that I called him out on the fact that he’s not paying 2 percent and I guess he’s not very happy about it.

“You were there, a few of you were there.

“He’s not paying 2 percent and he should be paying 2 percent.

“In Canada they have money and he should be paying 2 percent. So I called him out on that and I’m sure he wasn’t happy about it.

“But that’s the way it is.”

During the reception at Buckingham Palace the previous evening, the French and Canadian leaders, as well as Boris Johnson, were caught on camera as they were speaking about a politician delivering a 40-minute impromptu speech.
