21.09.2021 | Sen. Paul joins GOP chorus calling for Milley to be removed in wake of bombshell book

In response to the bombshell allegation, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) suggested that Milley should face an investigation and possible court-martial, according to Fox News.

“It should be investigated immediately, today, he should be questioned under oath, if not with a polygraph test, on whether it happened,” Paul told Fox during an interview on Wednesday. “If it happened, he should be immediately relieved of his duties and court-martialed.”

The senator reiterated that the priority should be getting to the truth, explaining: “This is innuendo and rumor and propaganda perhaps. But, if it is true he absolutely needs to be removed.”

“He needs to resign”
Paul is not alone in calling for Milley’s resignation. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has also weighed in with his own thoughts.

“I was just going to say, I mean, what he is doing here,” Hawley asserted, noting that if the allegations are true, then Milley has gone “outside the chain of command” and “broken the chain of command,” according to RealClearPolitics.

The Missouri Republican went on to assert that the general is accused of threatening “the constitutional principle of civilian control of the military” and should face consequences if the claims are verified.

“I hope these reports are inaccurate,” Hawley said. “But he does need to resign. He needs to resign, and if he won’t resign, he needs to be fired. I mean, he has broken the trust of the American people.”

“They write fiction”

Peril, the new book by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, describes Milley’s alleged call to a top Chinese general in which he promised that the U.S. would provide advanced warning if then-President Donald Trump moved to launch a military attack.

Trump reacted to the report by questioning the authors’ truthfulness but acknowledging that, if true, Milley could be found guilty of treason.

“The good news is that the story is Fake News concocted by a weak and ineffective General together with two authors who I refused to give an interview to because they write fiction, not fact,” Trump concluded.

As for the underlying insinuation against him in the book, the former president asserted: “I never even thought of attacking China.”
